Other reviewers will talk about picture quality with numbers and words I don''t use so no sense in me even trying to tell you about that stuff. If you want a review from a different perspective, here''s mine...

Setup....I''m a 63 year old single woman and I had no problems whatsoever getting this out of the box, onto my table top and setting it up and getting it working all by myself. Incredibly simple and easy. I read the screen and I pushed a few buttons and it was done. I use a TIVO and that was no issue whatsoever.

I can no longer use my older DVD player as it has the three plugs (white yellow red) and this tv does not support that, all must be digital. As I stream almost everything, that wasn''t an issue and I just put the player in another room on an older tv.

Picture- when it first starts they show you this quick little movie thing and it blew me away how sharp and clear it was. Incredible, as nice as in any movie theater. But that said, a lot of my tv watching is older stuff and I really don''t see much difference during those shows. When newer commercials or live news comes on, then I notice a clear and sharp picture again. Someone came over and played with the tv and turned on some live sports and I noticed the difference again, but if you watch old Law & Orders or The Office, the picture doesn''t really seem to improve much, at least to these old eyes.

Sound has really impressed me. I never knew what I was missing. Even in old shows I hear background noises I never knew were there. After using it for days I accidentally discovered it will level the sound so commercials aren''t so loud. Good thing I stumbled on that.

The tv''s remote is a bit annoying to me. It has a lot of buttons which do nothing, and other buttons for things I don''t want, need or will ever use. So there are all these unused buttons on the remote while things I do use and want have no buttons at all. It would be great if I could program these unused buttons to do what I want them to do. For instance, I have two streaming services, neither are Netflix, yet there''s this huge Netflix button. I wish I could program that for Amazon video instead but I can''t. I''d like a quick button for the sleep timer and another to send me back to live TV after being in TIVO Central. Not all buttons need to be programmable, but some would be nice. You can decide what you see or don''t see in some pm screen menu''s, but you can''t link them to buttons on the remote.

Google Assistant in the remote- interesting, useful at times, pointless at others. I don''t have Alexa, but this comes with Google Assistant. The microphone is in the remote control, so you have to pick up the remote to tell Google to turn the tv off or lower the volume...why not just push the button on the remote you''re holding? I''d really prefer a microphone in the tv so that when I wake in the morning I can find out the temperature while still snuggly under the covers, or to be able to turn the tv on/off when I can''t find the remote. I have asked the Assistant to wake me in the morning, tell me the temperature outside, raise/lower volume, turn the tv off, tell me the age of some actor, and things like that. But all by holding the remote.

I use a TIVO so here''s what I think of it in combination with it....there was no setup required at all. I took the hdmi cord from the old tv and plugged it into this one and TIVO was there and working fine and didn''t even notice a change. The tv''s remote takes over the function of most of TIVO''s remotes function with a few exceptions. From the tv remote you can access the guide, jump tuners, record, ff, rw, and a few others. What you can''t do is (or I haven''t figured out how to yet) is change the day on the guide, or get back to live tv from TIVO Central. Some I don''t have an issue with some I do, not being able to get back to live tv from the tv remote drives me nuts. So I have to keep both remotes handy.

A few days into use of this tv I had a trivial, but annoying issue with one of the options I had set during the initial set up. I no longer wanted that option and yet for the life of me could not find a way to change it back. I used the onscreen help and then my laptop and scoured the internet but the tv was too new for much to be out there. I gave up and called Sony. They remotely connected to the tv (after I gave them permission) and tried to find the answer to my problem while I watched them go through all my screens and such. When they couldn''t find it either, they simply said reset it and go through the various setup options again. They offered to do that for me but I said I could do that and did. It was quite impressive, I''ve never had that in a tv before. I can see where if there ever is a real problem, this would be so tremendously easier than a repairman. Loved it.

So this tv and the customer help line and such is just about perfect. To be perfect they need to rework that remote.

This TV is a beautiful device, worthy of the cost. We purchased this as a replacement for our 2009 50 inch Panasonic plasma. It’s a fine successor to what was a fantastic tv for many years. Finally a tv that offers the quality of a plasma without the risk of burn in (like OLED). That is once the second one arrived two days later. The first one sent to us had clearly been run into by a forklift in the bottom left corner. Upon removal from the box the device was found shattered and completely ruined. Amazon was great about getting a replacement to use less then 48 hours later though, so that’s something.

The Sony x950h is a relatively simple upgrade over the 2019 g model, one of the two biggest differences being in its audio quality. Now if you have a great sound system already you might be able to save a few bucks and go with last years addition. From my research the two are nearly identical in overall image quality. In my case we decided on the h precisely because we don’t have room for a decent surround sound setup. In fact I’d say it’s audio quality is equal to a good sound bar and should be more then enough for most folks.

The picture quality is great with one small draw back (I say draw back but it’s more like a trade off). The viewing angle on this TV is fantastic, much better than the 2019 model. But to achieve this and it’s rather dark blacks, they had to cut down on the number of zones for the full array LED lighting. As a result you may notice a slight bloom effect around things like credits and subtitles, especially when viewing in a very dark room. You could simply turn this feature off, but you will greatly sacrifice the darkness of your blacks as a result. I only notice it very infrequently, so it’s not a deal breaker for me.

The built in smart tv software is fine for anyone without a dedicated media device. We are only using it for YouTube at this point, everything else is viewed on an Apple TV 4K. Can’t wait for Apple to make their device fully compatible with the YouTube app, but until then, the Android Tv will suffice. Setting options are easily accessible and paired well with a cheap feeling but very capable remote.

A great alternative for OLED (no thanks, don’t need burn in problems) at a very reasonable price. Giving it 5 stars over all and very satisfied.

*edit - Apple has finally update the Apple TV 4K. We are no longer using any of the built in Android TV apps. A few months in and I have no complaints at all, the points in my original review still stand on solid ground.

Stunning picture, elegant design, and incredible functionality (marred by a sub-standard remote)

I''ve been viewing the TV for a week now-can barely take my eyes off it, and that''s just out of the box! The picture is absolutely bottom-line gorgeous, and the colors are amazing. I imagine once I get to a bit of calibrating the picture could go from gorgeous to...whatever lies beyond gorgeous-lol.

Here are some specific observations:

1) I''ve had no issues with blooming. I love cinema and enjoy watching movies in a completely darkened room. I''ve made it a point to seek out content that might lend itself to blooming (night time scenes, outer space scenes, any bright light/object moving across a dark background, etc.), and blooming has simply not been a problem.
2) I find the black levels very deep, and the contrast very good.
3) Brightness is superb, and reflections are handled beautifully. Bright, sunny room? No problem.
3) Letterbox bars have been solidly black.
4) Subtitles are crisp and fine, and have not caused any noticeable fluctuation to letterbox bars or any other elements of an ''active'' scene (I enjoy foreign films, and have been watching more programming with subtitles than without these past couple of days, and if subtitles in any way presented a problem, this baby would be on it''s way back to Amazon, which would also be the case if there was any general blooming issue). Now, if you are talking about bright white titles or subtitles against a deep, ENTIRELY BLACK screen with no other content on it, you may occasionally see slight bit of surrounding light diffusion-or you may not, but this is a possibility with pretty much any LED/FALD TV. The point is, if your super-proactively looking for something, you will almost invariably find some element of what you are looking for, at the expense of simply enjoying the picture you''re viewing. The bottom line is that in NORMAL viewing, you would not even notice these fleeting, intermittent occurrences. When watching real content (i.e, NOT sitting around over-analyzing the white titles on a wholly black screen), whether SDR or HDR, titles and subtitles are good and facilitate a great viewing experience.
5) Sound is surprisingly good! I could probably get away without a soundbar if I had to, but then again, my living room is a fairly modest size.
6) I actually like the somewhat-debated Android OS. It''s wicked fast, and offers a ton of incredible, almost endless, platforms and viewing options. OS/TV set-up was a breeze-took just a few minutes, and I was off to the races. No OS problems at all, so far.
7) Simple, elegant design-signature Sony. I like the new feet (the 950G feet looked weird and oddly-duck-like'' to me).

I made this purchase after many months of research that began last year, when my main Sony ''candidate'' was the 950G. However, the serious blooming concerns (and other related issues) that kept popping up in almost every consumer and ''Pro'' review caused me to hang back and see what 2020 had to offer, and I''m glad I did. Either I lucked out in the ''panel lottery'', and got a unit FAR less prone to these issues, or, Sony took all the 950G flack seriously and took corrective action (judging by the majority of other positive reviews, I''d say that we''re looking more at the latter scenario).

The only other serious contender for me personally was Samsung. A very different esthetic and viewing experience, but having owned a Samsung for the last several years, one that I enjoy equally to the Sony experience, albeit for different reasons. I finally settled on the Sony for a couple of reasons: 1) What I deemed to be Sony''s far more equitable price-point, and 2) Lack of Dolby Vision in the Samsung (which ended up being the main reason actually). Note to Samsung: you are losing sales on account of no Dolby Vision. If you doubt it, just check the review boards. Whatever you are saving on the Dolby Vision licensing fee, is it worth the loss in sales? I imagine so, otherwise, it''s simply a bad business decision. In any event, it''s all above my pay grade to figure out, and I''ve got more important things to focus on, such as finishing this already over-long review-lol.

My one issue with my incredible new 950H is the junky, non-backlit remote. This has really got me (and a lot of others) perplexed. On the one hand, Sony sells me a killer FLAGSHIP LED TV with all the bells and whistles, huge functionality and picture and sound customization options for days-and then ensures that exercising any of this functionality on-the-fly (which I do quite often when changing channels, platforms/apps, etc.) becomes a completely disruptive experience because I have to stop and access a light source to make the slightest adjustment, taking me completely out of the experience each time. Even the 8-year-old Samsung the Sony is replacing has a a ''lit'' remote (some kind of phosphoresence-very clever and effective, actually), and I am able to make virtually any adjustment(s) barely taking my eyes of the screen for a nano-second since the darn thing is lit, thus NOT taking me out of the experience by virtue of having to stop and turn on a light first, or try and see by the light of the screen, etc. For someone who turns the TV on and pretty much leaves the picture alone while watching, changing channels, etc., this is probably not so much of an issue, but I would venture to guess that that''s not most owners of this TV. Adding insult to injury, the European version of this very same TV (XH95) comes with a beautiful, metallic, BACKLIT remote, actually worthy of this TV. So the question is, why has Sony created 2 classes of owners of this model; one with a plastic piece-of-garbage remote, and the other with the remote that speaks to the level and price-point of this TV? Who can say? Either way, not nice or fair, Sony, and it''s a decision that I and many other owners (and ''Pro'' reviewers) are scratching our heads over.

The best analogy I can think of would be if a car manufacturer sold me a Ferrarri-level sports car with all the bells and whistles--and then slapped 4 bicycle tires on it-yikes!

I personally think that Sony needs to make this right, and should issue a ''hardware'' update to the American buyers of this TV in the form of the same (and far more appropriate) remote that you have chosen to let European buyers enjoy, much in the same way that you issue a software update when needed to fix something that''s not right, because no matter how you slice it, what Sony is doing here is simply not right, and as I''ve said previously, all they have achieved with the cheap American remote is to mar an otherwise glorious piece of technology. If things are so bad in Sony Land that the differential between the cost of a piece of junk remote and the appropriate remote this TV and the viewer deserve will break the bank, then SELL me a metallic, backlit remote so that I am not forever tethered to something that, quite frankly, I have the urge to throw out the window just about every day. Given how frustrated I am with the present remote, It''s a purchase I would be happy to make at this point (Sony, if you''re listening, please FIX THIS one way or another-the buyers of your LED "Flagship" deserve better!)

This would have been an overall 5-star review, if not for the remote (sorry to have gone on and on about the remote, but it really is a really HUGELY annoying issue for me, that is having a real and negative impact on the way that I like to watch TV, which is to use all of the wonderful functionality you have given me with this model as I''m watching on-the-fly. And the sheer unfairness of slighting the American buyer vs. the properly equipped European buyer really burns my toast a bit. BTW, if anyone has made it this far and is still reading, I admire your fortitude, and thanks for reading, because as minor as this issue may seem to some, it''s a real annoyance for others).

The Amazon buying experience and delivery went like the usual clockwork.

BTW, I also checked out the 900H, which has a LOT to recommend it, but being far more of a movie watcher than a gamer, I''m very happy with my final choice (except for the darn you-know-what!). I imagine if my ''user profile'' was flipped to gamer, the 900H would have been a layup based on my research, so far.

The 4k UHD is nothing short of breathtaking, and the presentation/upscaling of other (mainly 1080p) content is superb. If you''re looking for a bonafide ''home theatre'', cinematic experience, the 950H is, in my opinion, a real contender, and more than worthy of consideration.

I hope this review has been in some way helpful.

Whatever anyone ends up buying, I think 2020 so far is actually turning out to me to be a much more interesting year in TV world than many would have had us believe.

Thanks again for reading!

(To paraphrase the great Mark Twain: Please forgive the length of this review; if I''d had more time, it would have been shorter.)

Instead of buying a less expensive television I figured I would buy one that is in the moderate priced range. Upon delivery I was very happy, beautiful looking television and packaged very well. A month into ownership the sound would cut off approximately once a week and the TV would have to be shut off and put back on again for it to work. I though it was something that would not occur again. A week later more often and it continued to become more frequent as the weeks went on. Initial telephone call to Amazon went well and they tried to help to no avail. Once the television is past the 30 day mark they do not want anything to do with the television and directed me to Sony. After a half a dozen or so online chats with Sony where they remote into the TV to perform diagnostic tests they finally agreed to replace the main board. Good you think? Well that is not the end. They email this beautiful invoice with dates and numbers and give specific instructions on how and when the repair service will contact you. They state within one business day. A week goes by no calls, so I call the repair service which is a contractor. They claim that the item is "somewhere" in their warehouse and it needs to be located before they can even schedule a service date. I call Sony back and now they tell me that the repair service is allowed five to ten business days . So what is Sony? Email states on thing and Sony representative states another. Over a month into this and this brand new TV is still not functioning properly.

Why would you want this TV?
-Excellent blacks and screen uniformity.
-good viewing angle and reflections for an LED LCD.
-Excellent color and natural presentation with shadow detail preserved.
-Good build quality.
-Decent android based menu experience, simple to operate.
-Sony is usually reliable.

Why would you not want it?
-If you are a gamer obsessed with things that MIGHT one day make it into games and make a a significant playing difference, this set doesn''t have HDMI 2.1 and never will. Complete non issue that many gamers are whining about, as if they have ever seen a game with variable refresh rate to date.

Long winded review:
Upgraded 46" 2010 to 65" 2020 Bravia.

A quick note on size for anyone who is struggling with screen size selection- just get the biggest size you can afford and will fit in your room and don''t worry, you will regret not going big after a week if you don''t. The size change was at first shocking and I didn''t like it for a couple days as a big television can dominate a room, but a few room tweaks and some acclimation and I am becoming quite pleased with the purchase. This screen is much easier on the eyes even when used as a large computer monitor, and a large screen is more engaging even viewed from afar. There are of course limits for some rooms. 75" and up is realllly getting large in terms of fitting in an average room that may not be dedicated to viewing, and the distance you will want to sit back from such sizes increases. 65" seems to work out just about right for viewing 7-10 feet away.

I did more research than previous buys of this kind because there are so many emotional whiners and reviewers of products these days you almost think nothing works if you listen to any of them. The opposite is true, most of the current technology is amazing and we are spoiled. Seriously wondering what is wrong with people taking products so personally and being so proud because they bought this or that brand, or son angry at the tiniest flaw. The bottom line is that most major brands are making great stuff, and there are pros and cons of each but seldom do you find really bad stuff from major brands. The quality gap between them is narrow as well, and your choice will be based upon how each brand and model balances features.

If you think you want the HDMI 2.1 because the internet told you what to think and that gaming would be pathetic without it the day the first game offers variable refresh rates, so be it, get the 900H and hope the firmware adds 2.1.

The 950H trades out the HDMI 2.1, meaningless for most, for improved reflection handling, viewing angles and black level from the 900H, as well as sound for those without external sound. For people serious about image quality for movies and photographs, content creation, professional use, that trade-off and price premium is probably well worth it especially after years of use.

In use none of the critical aspects I''ve heard about are seen. I have barely seen any blooming at all even when trying hard to find it; the blacks are almost too black yet no shadow detail crushing- I surely don''t regret skipping an OLED and its burn in worries since I use the screen on a computer often. The uniformity of blacks, grey and white fields is excellent, and of course other colors as well. The corner vignetting is extremely minor, less than a thumb size of very slight vignette on my panel and can''t be seen at all on most content; camera lenses and the eye also naturally vignette some- it is a complete non issue. The brightness can be painful so not sure about the gripes about not enough, I have the screen brightness very low for most content and the dynamic range is still very good. In very bright room lighting, the screen can still get plenty bright.

For most of their televisions, Sony has opted for excellent color rendition, a natural presentation, preserving shadow detail and excellent motion processing and upscaling- this is no exception. If you want accurate and excellent looking content, this is probably the brand. If you want slightly (not noticeable to most) better blacks and that ultra vivid almost CG look, a Samsung or Vizio top line screen may do it at expense of colors and shadow detail. Neither is bad, just design biases the brands make to suit different preferences, and most of these TVs can be configured to at least sort of look like the others. OLED is touted as so much better than anything, but in actual viewing the difference is not massive like it once was.

Overall this is a solid performer that can present content accurately and in very high quality, and it should last if previous products by the brand are still an indication of their quality.

With having a quality pre-4k Sony TV, I had been holding out on going to 4k for a Sony at this price level. This TV hits the marks! Find quality 4k (great camera, little compression) and the picture is awesome. (Just HD is not good enough to watch.)

I was surprised that this Sony just has digital audio out, so my older Denon receiver won’t hook up. (I’ve ordered a digital audio to RCA converter so I’ll see how that works out… might be time to upgrade my still quality Denon to a new one for digital audio input?)

As far as the TV features, I have only hooked it up to a 4k AppleTV as I won’t use Google. I have a TiVo for some live TV.

I did also buy this to Airstream photos from my MacBook, and finally I can see my beautiful pictures on this awesome display. What a treat!

I just received this TV, delayed delivery. The box was intact, so I thought, whew, it looks fine! I assemble the legs, my girlfriend and I carefully lift it as per the instructions and common sense (NEVER apply pressure on a TV screen...) The TV looks fine - but then I take a closer look - even turned off, I see some bubbles and ''''lines''''... I still cannot turn it on, as it is still cold from the delivery. Fast forward about 20m later, due to the cold TV and some minor humidity in the room, some ACTUAL FINGERPRINTS ARE FORMING - I use a strong flashlight to see the defect and I see the fingerprints clearly. Now the thing is, the TV was in a box, with foam cubes, some protection and bags and plastic all around it. So the damage was done in factory, as the delivery guys of whoever handled the box AFTER packaging never could''ve left smudges and fingerprints. I''m currently in contact with Amazon.ca representatives to issue a solution, but very disappointed in Sony''s lack of standards... Everybody knows you never exert pressure on a screen - it''s even there, on plenty of stickers around the product! And it is impossible those fingerprints were left by delivery people or amazon employees, as again, there was a lot of packaging (cardboard, foam, plastic, etc) ''''protecting'''' the TV, so the defect was applied and the TV was broken before it was packaged... I''m gonna take closeup pictures of the fingerprints as well if there ever needs an investigation ahahaha ...Not happy though!

We bought the 65" version of the Sony X950H 4K LED TV after comparing it to many other TV''s. As has been mentioned in numerous professional reviews, the out-of-the-box picture quality is just astounding without making any adjustments. With crisp, accurate colors and excellent dynamic range, this thing is a joy to behold in action. When playing full 4K, Dolby Vision-enabled HDR content in the right lighting conditions, this set produces images that practically make your eyes water with the amount of detail on display. Off-axis viewing is also much better than I was expecting and, thanks to very good peak brightness, you can still enjoy excellent picture quality even in brightly lit rooms. Moving on to sound quality, I can''t say much about the built in speakers, as I paired the TV with one of Sony''s 3.1 sound bars right out of the box. As far as apps go, the built-in android TV operating system gives you access to all the usual apps and options that are standard on most smart TV''s these days. Chromecast support is built-in, as is Netflix. You can also throw away your old Apple TV, because you can download the app for that as well. Also supports streaming music services like Spotify, as well as a host of other apps that you can download from the Google Play Store. Anyway, if you are looking to join the 4K crowd, you certainly can''t go wrong with the Japanese-made Sony X950H. Buy with confidence and prepare to be blown away. One last thing: if you have a lot of DVD''s or 720p digital movie files, don''t expect them to look very good on this TV. Anything less than 1080p doesn''t seem to upscale very well, with much of such content looking somewhat grainy and washed out. You mileage will vary, depending on the bitrate and color depth of the source material, but be forewarned--you should not expect upscaling miracles with sub-1080p content.
